The Past

"Miyuki get inside! I don't want people staring at you!" Miyuki turned around to catch the soft, gentle scent of her mother. But this gentle person always seemed to grow angry when Miyuki accidentally made her way to where the air was fresh; to where she made contact to the object her mother called a 'door'.

Unlike everyone else in the village, her mother had explained to her when she was younger, she was the only who could see no light. She had often heard people scowled her parents about housing such a weak creature. Her eyes were the main thing that was damaged, but the hatred of the people who didn't understand her slight differences only saw her for her handicap, rather than how she really was.

I'll go 'outside' today, she thought to herself. I need to know why the air is so much fresher by my window. Why the wind feels so gentle to me, even though I'm not allowed to feel it. I need to figure out why people don't like me.

That night, Miyuki slowly felt her way around her room until she felt the cool breeze of the outer world. From there, she lifted her legs over the sill and let them slide down the clay wall until they made contact with the ground below. New smells unburied themselves from the air as she slid her bare feet along the damp soil. From what she could tell of the texture and frequency of small weeds, shrubs, and trees, she had to have been in some woods. This world seemed more beautiful than what her mother had told her. The air smelled fresh and sweet, the tree leaves soft against her skin.

"Hey, look. It's the little blind girl."
"Let's have some fun with her."
"That sounds like a plan!"

"W-who's there?" Miyuki jumped quickly. She felt three hot auras around her, which all surrounded her so close, she could feel their breaths against her skin.

"You don't belong in this village," the second voice whispered in her ear. "You're so weak; you should even still be alive." He pushed her on to the ground and stepped on her head with most of his weight.

"Please, let me go. I've done nothing to you!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. A feminine voice came close to her head, as if it's owner was croutching right over her.

" I say we just slit her neck. This far out, nobody should find her body. The wolves should find her well before another person does."

The first voice began laughing and slit Miyuki's small neck, leaving her bleeding to death on the ground as her murderers walked away.

Reborn

"Wake up, Miyuki." A soft voice echoed through the room.
"A-am I...am I...dead...?" Miyuki asked the voice. She stood up quickly. The floor now seemed way different than the ground she had prodded prior to this. It was cold and hard and smooth like glass. The warm air had turned cold and crisp.
"Sadly yes, Miyuki. But we watched the cruel way you were killed by your own, and thought that was simply horrible. We have given you a choice to either live up here-if that's what you'd like to call it- or you may return to Earth. If you choose the latter, you will live like a mortal until you die again. Also, you will not be able to return there anymore. So which do you choose?" the voice asked her.
After a few moments of thought, Miyuki finally replied. "I would like to go back down to Earth. I shan't have my village continue to belive being blind is a weakness."
The voice chuckled. "Of course. But now there's only one thing you must do now."
"And what's that?"
"Learn to fly, of course!"
At those words, the floor Miyuki had been standing on gave out and allowed her to plunge downward. Horrible screams exited her throat as she fell for what felt like ages. The only thing that had stopped her was something soft and feathery smacking her in the face. Upon tugging it, she felt a sharp pain in her back. "Wait, what?! N-no way!" she yelled in shock. Are these...mine?! Then...that means...I can fly! she thought excitedly. "Come on...I can do it..." Miyuki concentrated on learning how to flap her new limbs and finally figured out how to use them. Slowing her fall, she had time to think. Alright...now how in the hell do I know where I'm going? At that moment, she felt something hard hit her body and she tumbled for about 20 feet until she finally hit the ground.

"Hey, girl. Are you alright?"
Miyuki slowly regained her consciousness to the light shaking of someone's hands on her shoulders.
"Y-yes, I'm...I'm fine..." she managed to say through her slurred speech. Her whole body was severely sore, probably from hitting that damn tree, she thought bitterly.
"Well, you really don't look alright. You're all bruised up and bleeding."
"I...If you c-could see that....then wh-why in the world...would you ask me if I was a-alright?"
The voice simply chuckled in reply. "Here, follow me and I'll let you get some help.
"T-there's...a problem t-to that...I-I can't see. I'm b-blind." These pointless words were taking too much energy, and she knew that she had lost too much blood here. "B-but...help would be...nice..." she managed to whisper before she passed out again. Am I going to die again...? So...soon...?
