Feelings for Kurayami

Hazirami woke from bed the next day after his game with the children. He stayed laying in bed, outside it was dark still, he had woken much earlier then usual and he knew the rest of the village was still asleep, there were thoughts on his mind that made him refuse to go back to sleep. He finally realized his power in the village, he was only 8, yet his strength was higher then most jounin’s, he wasn’t worthy of the position of Hokage, yet he was still chosen by elders. Even at his age, he knew that the reason was simply to be in control of the bijuu inside him. Hazirami thought of his face, the whiskers, the seal on his stomach was very much like the seal on his sensei’s stomach. The difference of him compared to others, why did they treat him better than others when he feels like he is exactly the same as them? Even during his time of grieving, he was treated better then the other patients, and he didn’t figure it out until he realized that they were trying to protect the Kyuubi. Hazirami turned over in bed and rearranged the pillow underneath his head. He continued laying, feeling the coolness of the new spot of pillow on his face, the covers were beginning to make him sweat so he kicked them off of the bed and continued laying there. He reached over to the stand beside his bed and pulled a book out of the drawer that he stole from Kakashi’s desk. It was called Icha Icha Tactics, he read the author quietly.

“Jiraiya.”

Hazirami opened the book and was surprised to find a beautiful lady on the inside page, he thought the book was about fighting tactics. He opened to the first page and read the first paragraph and paused looking alarmed. He jumped a little and quickly threw the book back in the drawer and lay back in bed with a shocked look on his face. The look disappeared as he began to think of another haunting thought on his mind, he began to wonder why Kurayami was so nice to him when he was down. Hazirami began to think of the details of her face and then of her body and began to feel funny, his stomach felt like it was floating like butterflies. Hazirami sat up and looked out the window, everything was dark, there were a few houses here and there that had the lights on, Hazirami opened the window and dropped down onto the second story patio below his window and began jumping from roof to roof, he stopped at a 24 hour store and dropped down to the door, he walked in and bought a popsicle, all they had were the two stick popsicle’s that break in half for two people. Hazirami groaned at paying extra, he didn’t want to eat two popsicle’s, he got brain freezes easily.

“Hello.”

Hazirami looked around, he recognized the voice as he looked up onto the roof he saw Kurayami standing there, she had a smile on her face, she wore all black and it was very hard for Hazirami to recognize her standing there.

“Hi Kuya-chan, why are you out so late?”

“I should be asking the same question for you Hazi, you’re the Hokage and you’re too young to be out here anyways.”

Hazirami sighed and broke the popsicle in half and held out one of them for Kurayami, she jumped down and took it smiling.

“Thanks, so you came out here at this time just to get a popsicle.”

Hazirami blushed, he was glad that it was too dark out to notice it.

“Yeah, I had some stuff on my mind as well.”

“Like?”

Hazirami jumped a little and looked at her, then he looked away.

“Erm... Hokage stuff.”

Kurayami giggled.

“Are you sure?”

“Um, yeah.”

“You don’t sound sure.”

Hazirami looked down at the ground.

“Fine, I had other things on my mind.”

“Like?”

“Like... you for one.”

Kurayami blushed a little.

“Really? How was I on your mind?”

“Why not? You’re like my best friend.”

Kurayami smiled and bent down a little and kissed Hazirami’s cheek.

“Was that what you were thinking about?”

Hazirami blushed and looked up at Kurayami and smiled.

“Yeah, a little.”

Kurayami giggled and she grabbed his arm and put it around her shoulder. They continued walking, each with their popsicle’s, Hazirami began to eat his and when he got about half way down, he ate the entire thing in one bite, he paused and went frigid with a brain freeze. Kurayami giggled and began to eat hers. The sun was beginning to come up, Hazirami sat down on a bench and patted on the seat next to him, she sat down gently and smiled. Hazirami turned in his seat to face her.

“Why would you go out with me? You’re much older right?”

“Why not? You’re a great man, and you act well above your age, who cares about age difference, you know how to act like a real man.”

Hazirami smiled and hugged her. He got up and waved to her.

“I have to go before Kakashi notices I’m gone, and that I stole his book...”

Hazirami turned and ran back, he jumped into bed and threw the covers over himself, at the exact same time, Kakashi walked into the room to wake him up. Hazirami’s eyes were closed and there was a smile on his face. Kakashi smiled and turned to leave the room, not wanting to interrupt a good dream.

Akatsuki on the Move

Two more months had gone by, this time Konoha was truly in trouble. Hazirami was looking back and forth through his desk trying to find some papers with information on them. Hazirami heard a knock at his door, Hazirami looked up and spoke.

“Come in.”

Kakashi walked in with papers in hand.

“Are those my papers with the information on the current war status?”

“Yes.”

“Give them here.”

“I’m afraid I cannot, its in agreement with the other elders that it is best for us to handle the war for now, they do not believe you’re ready enough to handle it.”

Hazirami’s face turned into a scowl.

“Ready enough, or is it that you believe I’m not old enough?”

Kakashi coughed a little and sighed in slight embarrassment.

“If it were my decision, I would leave the war in your hands.”

“Then do it or be in contempt of defying orders.”

Kakashi laughed.

“You do realize the court is run by the elders right?”

“You do realize I have more power then the elders. Now hand me the papers.”

Kakashi nodded and handed the papers to him and Hazirami looked up at him.

“What was it that you wanted here now.”

“Permission to form a party and attempt to slow down the Akatsuki.”

Hazirami sighed and spread out the papers, they included everything from bingo book sheets, to classified information stolen by spies from other villages. He noticed the profile of the most recent member, her name was Kurayami, she finally left the village, she noticed the corruption of the village and decided it was best to go against corruption at all costs. Hazirami had a flashback of trying to explain to her exactly what was happening, but in the end, he couldn’t get through to her. The last thing he remembered of the event was a sharp pain in his chest and collapsing to his hands and knees as she ran. Hazirami broke back into the real world and clenched harder onto the paper in frustration and anger. He pulled out a blank piece of paper and began writing the details about Kurayami and he handed the page to Kakashi.

“Take a three man squad and try to find more details about this member, she is a missing ninja from the Konoha and she is the newest member of Akatsuki, I hope we can get her before she becomes more acquainted with the group.”

Kakashi recognized the name and automatically knew there was more to Hazirami’s assigning of her then he let on.

“Kurayami? Hazirami, think about it again, she was your first love.”

Hazirami looked back at his papers and began looking at the people’s information again and stopped on another man’s name, his name was Eki. He remembered his name being mentioned in his conversation with Kurayami, his leadership skills were exactly like Eki’s, but the motives were different. She left for him.

“She is an akatsuki member, there is no love between warring nations.”

Kakashi sighed and then turned to leave the room.

News Returned from Akatsuki

One week after the mission was assigned, a man barged into Hazirami’s office, Hazirami jumped up, he was laying asleep on his desk again, the work was boring him and he didn’t want to finish it that day. The man standing at the door was wearing an ANBU mask.

“Sir, you may want to see this.”

The ANBU member seemed frantic, Hazirami quickly got out of his seat and began to move with the ANBU member, he led him to the medical emergency room. Inside, Hazirami could see at least ten doctors are working frantically on an old man with long white hair, closer look revealed that it was Kakashi. Hazirami pushed a doctor out of the way.

“Everyone stop.”

Kakashi was breathing slowly, a doctor ran up to Hazirami telling him that Kakashi was going to die if they didn’t work now. Hazirami looked at Kakashi’s body, it was a disgusting sight. There were cuts and bruises all over the man’s body, Kakashi’s Sharingan eye was removed, and there was bleeding coming from the wound, all across his chest, there were long gashes and torture wounds, there were a few burn marks on his stomach. Kakashi’s face was even worse, there were cuts all across his nose, and his lip seemed to be split. Hazirami winced at the site, when he took a closer look at Kakashi’s chest, he could see that someone carved a message in his chest.

War isn’t fun Hazirami

Slowly the movement on Kakashi’s chest stopped, his body lay still, a doctor jumped to try and bring him back to life, but Hazirami held his hand up and shook his head.

“Its over, Kakashi wouldn’t want to live this way. Start the autopsy, see if any drugs were used on him, poisons, anything, I need to know everything.”

The head doctor nodded, you could tell there was worry and reluctancy in his eyes. Hazirami turned and left the room, he was thinking about the message.

Could it have been from Kuyarami?

Hazirami clenched his fist, as he walked out of the hospital, he looked up and saw some kids playing, his eyes lightened, the thoughts of him being a normal kid again were gone now that he was Hokage, but the dream that he may once play amongst them again stayed. Death was something that Hazirami was now accustomed to, but it had been a long time since a death had affected him as much as Naruto’s had. Hazirami looked at one of the girls sitting alone, she smiled as she watched other’s play, he recognized her as Maria, she looked up at him and waved. Hazirami smiled and kept walking, his face turning into a grimace again as he continued to walk back to his office.

Declaring war, it could put the children here at risk. Children... I talk as if I’m not one anymore...

Hazirami sighed, he looked up at the adults as he walked by, each of them smiling and showing signs of respect to someone who was much younger then them. It gave Hazirami an eerie feeling, he couldn’t understand how he could gain such respect, yet at the same time, still be a child. His thoughts of war further disturbed him as he wondered what the villagers would think of him. Three more ANBU members jumped down from a rooftop nearby, they all bowed to him. Hazirami put his hand off to stop the polite gestures.

“What is it?”

The ANBU member in the middle stepped forward.

“We need to know any information that you know on the death of Kakashi.”

Hazirami could hear gasps from a few of the villagers nearby who could hear the conversation. He sighed.

“All you need to know is to plan the funeral, the rest will be revealed soon after an autopsy.”

The ANBU member nodded. From behind him, Hazirami heard a voice of a girl.

“Is it true, did someone die.”

Hazirami turned around and saw that it was Maria again. He reluctantly nodded.

“What’s gonna happen?”

“I’m not sure.”

“But you’re supposed to know, you’re the Hokage.”

“Sometimes, its not easy being Hokage.”

Hazirami ran off back to his office.

A Final Farewell to Kakashi and the Konoha

Hazirami sat in his chair wondering what he should do, declaring war on an organization as big and powerful as Akatsuki could leave Konoha in ruins again, but not declaring war could mean the imminent destruction of the village anyways. He really had no choice which to choose, as he continued to think, he looked down at a picture on his desk of Naruto with Kakashi when Naruto was still only a genin. Hazirami picked up the picture and smiled as he thought of how the two could finally reunite in death. As he set the picture down, there was a knock at his door.

“Come in.”

A woman came in completely dressed in black, her hair was pink and her eyes green.

“Is it time to go Sakura?”

Sakura nodded as she turned, Hazirami followed her, he hated to think of what she felt like now, she had lost Sasuke earlier, and now Naruto and Kakashi, each within a year. Hazirami felt sorry for her, but at the same time, he could relate to her, both Naruto and Kakashi were his sensei, and he loved them both like father and grandfather. He had the village tailor change the details of his kage outfit, he made everything that was white, black, just for the occasion. In his hands he carried a very weird kunai that Kakashi said was used when he was younger to summon the Yondaime who saved his life. Sakura looked back at Hazirami, she smiled to him.

“Don’t be sad, Kakashi would’ve wanted you to be happy.”

Hazirami nodded, he could tell that even at his age, Sakura also respected him too, it made him feel odd again. Why did the people respect him when he felt himself that he shouldn’t be in the position? He gripped the kunai harder thinking about what Kakashi or Naruto would do in this situation. As he walked outside, he was on the rooftop of the Hokage building, the same place where they held Naruto’s funeral, the funeral he ended up missing because of his depression. Hazirami began to think again, to when he was younger, the loss of his sensei had nearly crippled him. Everyone in the village was standing upon the Kage building as Hazirami stepped up onto the pedestal to announce the recent death of Kakashi. He gave a eulogy and his own final farewell, as he stepped off of the stage, someone in the back asked a question, it was the girl again, Maria.

“What will happen to Konoha?”

Hazirami stopped in his tracks and cringed, he couldn’t think of an answer again, he kept his face away from the crowd as he lowered his head.

“Revenge is bitter sweet. But why does it have to be war?”

Hazirami’s eyes closed as a tear ran from his eye, he looked up at crowd.

“Why do we have to take lives to create peace? I just don’t understand anymore.”

Hazirami’s eyes began to pour tears again as he walked off of the pedestal, he walked away from the crowd, his mind was set on Naruto and Kakashi again. He couldn’t understand the world anymore, from behind he felt someone grab him and hug him, Hazirami stopped and seperated the arms, he turned to find Maria smiling at him. Hazirami hugged Maria.

“Thanks, I needed that.”

Maria smiled as she closed her eyes.

“I could tell.”

Hazirami let go and looked at Maria, his eyes were serious.

“I don’t know what to do anymore, I’m not cut out for this position at this point in my life. The village is corrupt, and I can’t fix it, the elders see me as a mere child. Kurayami left Konoha, she saw the same thing, I don’t want to end up like her, I don’t want to follow someone who has evil beliefs.”

Maria smiled at Hazirami as she grabbed his hand.

“Then don’t, we’ll leave to another place, a place where Konoha cannot find you.”

Hazirami looked down at the floor.

“But what about...”

“Give the position to someone more worthy.”

“I’ll let the elder’s decide. We’ll leave now.”

“What about your possessions?”

“They’ll only slow us down.”

Maria smiled as she pulled Hazirami’s hand.

"We need to get Nagato first."

"Alright, hurry."

Trouble with a Mother

Hazirami, Maria, and Nagato all walked out of the Konoha gates, each of them smiled at the guards, who smiled back, not realizing that it would probably be the last time they would ever see any of them again. Hazirami looked at his weapons, checking to make sure he had everything, his kunai, needles, his ramen. He looked over at Maria and Nagato and saw them all doing the same, he didn’t know how to tell them of the dangers they may face for leaving the village. Hazirami thought about his kekkei genkai, he had recently just discovered he had it, the doujutsu powers were amazing, and he was already in the process of inventing a new technique for it. He was hoping he wouldn’t have to try it yet, but he knew that he may have to put it to use soon. There were going to be ninja far stronger the genin he traveled with, he looked down at Maria with concern in his eyes.

“Lets go.”

Maria looked up at Hazirami, and Hazirami could sense that she noticed the concern, and he almost felt that he caught some worry in her eyes. He changed his view to Nagato, Hazirami could tell that there was something special, as if him and Nagato were somehow related. Nagato looked over at Hazirami and smiled. Hazirami could tell that the other two were finally realizing what they were doing. They were about to become missing ninja. All three of them moved out and were already running down a road, they had to make it to the border of another country in two days. Hazirami didn’t care what country, as long as they were away from Konoha.

“We’re going to go missing ninja for awhile, I have no idea what village we’ll go to, or if we’ll go to one at all. Very few villages trust missing ninjas.”

Maria and Nagato nodded, Hazirami looked behind him, he caught a few shadows following not close behind, soon he saw a kunai land in a tree not far from where he was, it had a tag attached to it, Hazirami’s eyes spread wide open in an instant as he jumped pushing the other two out of the way of the explosion that sent trees splintering everywhere. Hazirami looked at the back of his arm and pulled out a few fragments of the trees, he looked down at Maria and asked if she was okay. She simply nodded and looked behind Hazirami to see what happened. Hazirami sighed and followed her eyes to meet with an ANBU member.

“Why are you attacking me, I’m your Hokage.”

The ANBU member removed her mask to reveal her identity, a move that is against the rules of an ANBU member. Hazirami could tell that she knew she was going to die here today if she fought him, she was trying to persuade Hazirami to give himself up without a fight by showing her face. The woman was someone Hazirami recognized, he had just spoken to her son not long before he left, the woman’s name was Fujiwara, her son was named Fang. She spoke quietly, you could hear a slight quiver in her voice, as if she feared the worst may happen soon.

“You are no longer our Hokage, you have left the village, and abandoned us.”

Hazirami sighed and tried to think of a way to reason with her, he looked back at Nagato and Maria, both of them looked at Hazirami, trying to find out what they should do. Hazirami looked back at Fujiwara.

“I am still a part of the village, I haven’t been gone more then two hours...”

Fujiwara smiled nervously and sighed, she pulled a kunai with an explosive take out and threw it at the tree right above Hazirami’s head, everyone scattered. Hazirami looked to see that there were three ANBU members there, one for each of the ninja, Hazirami was frightened, he knew that Maria and Nagato couldn’t handle an ANBU member on their own. Hazirami quickly lunged at Fujiwara, his eyes activated turning dark blue just as the explosion behind him set off, sending the trees splintering again.

A Struggle to Save Eachother

Hazirami was struck in the side of the head by Fujiwara, a blind-sided kick leaving him unconscious, as he went down, he looked at Maria struggling with her attacker, all the way until his vision blacked out. Through his head, he could hear thoughts, thoughts that weren’t his own. Thoughts that sounded like they came from another being.

“Are you really going to let your friends down that easily?”

“Do I have a choice...”

“Yeah, you do.”

Hazirami felt visions of red overcome him as a new chakra overwhelmed his body. As the chakra pushed through, he felt his vision slowly coming back, he saw Maria was being attacked by Fujiwara and another ANBU who seemed to be using wood in his jutsus. Maria kept fighting them off whenever they tried to grab her, finally Fujiwara got annoyed and tackled her to the ground only to be stabbed with a kunai by Maria. The man using the wood jutsu looked over at me and saw the chakra beginning to form, he pulled his mask off and quickly sent his wood flying towards me. The wood grabbed Hazirami by his arms and legs, as Hazirami struggled to pull his arms away, he felt as if his power was being drained from him. Nagato quickly moved as he roundhoused the man in the head as he managed to get away from his attacker. The ANBU that followed grabbed Nagato by both arms from behind and put his knee to Nagato’s back and began to pull, standing not far from him, Hazirami could hear Nagato’s bone’s starting to give way, when the wood let go of him, Hazirami punched the ANBU member cracking the masking and sending him flying into a tree, with a quick snap of the neck, the man was dead. Hazirami, not knowing what had come over him began to attack in blind rage, Fujiwara jumped when she heard a loud howl erupt from Hazirami’s lungs giving Maria enough time to land a powerful haymaker sending Fujiwara flying backwards as Nagato grabbed the wood controlling ANBU from behind. The man yelled out.

“Stop!!! My name is Yamato, and if you don’t let go of me, Hazirami might kill you!!!”

Hazirami attacked Maria in a blind rage, not knowing what was happening anymore. Nagato let go of Yamato to save Maria, Yamato took the opportunity to use his wood jutsu to stop Hazirami, as it grabbed Hazirami’s limbs, Hazirami began to lose power again as the red chakra surrounding his body began to disappear again. Maria and Nagato looked back in disbelief at the man. The wood let go of Hazirami once the red chakra was gone, Hazirami fell to the ground as if he were lifeless, out of nowhere Fujiwara emerged and attacked Hazirami’s unconscious body with a kunai, Yamato was quick to react as he threw a kunai that hit Fujiwara in the throat knocking her down and causing her to spew forth blood as she tried to breath. The blood in Yamato’s face disappeared, and his face turned white. Maria and Nagato rushed to Hazirami to wake him up, as Hazirami came too, Yamato looked around, trying to find a place to run too, but Hazirami was quick to notice.

“Stop. Tell me your name.”

Yamato looked at Fujiwara, and then up at his Hokage, Yamato got down on one knee and put his hand down on the ground, bowing his head.

“My name is Yamato, I’m am yours to serve.”

Hazirami looked down at Fujiwara, she was still alive, struggling to die, Hazirami reached down and twisted the kunai causing it to make a painful and sickening sound of blade against bone and flesh. Fujiwara’s legs and arms stopped flailing and fell lifeless, Hazirami looked down into her glassy eyes and then looked away as his hands touched her forehead and moved down her face, closing her eyes. Hazirami looked at Nagato and Maria and could see fear in their eyes, he turned back to Yamato.

“You can come with us, you can run on your own, or you can return to the village to return a message for me. Fujiwara left without orders in an illegal mission and dragged you in with it. Unfortunately, I’ve just left another motherless child, but I have no choice, Konoha is corrupt with me as leader, I am still but a mere child, and the village elders have no respect for me. If Konoha wishes to become better, then they must replace me with a more experienced leader. Until then, I am leaving, to where I don’t know. Yamato, deliver this message to Konoha.”

Yamato nodded as he turned to leave back to Konoha. Hazirami turned to face the others and then picked up the body of Fujiwara.

“We passed a river nearby, lets clean them and give them a final send-off.”
