Ookami Dax has bred and trained the wolves. He also has judgement on who can have a wolf, being a high ranking shinobi in or in alliance with the Ookami Clan.

The wolves serve as the personal summon of their owner. The owner can summon as many wolves as they own.

Dax was at Lake of Sorrow, with his wolf pack. Dax and Kioshi were looking for hawks, when they discovered a wolf (Dax named this wolf: Silent Fred) hurt. Dax was weak with his instinctual powers and was unable activate his Instincts by choice. Because of this, Kioshi and Dax were sidelined by another wolf. Dax's impulses activated his instincts, which allowed him to take control of the situation, and Kioshi treated the wolf.

Dax went to the Lake for two weeks. He always went with his animal kit, which comprised of a medical kit and a navagational kit. Oni was the wolf who attacked Dax and Kioshi, and had a very aggresive personality. There was also the very pleasent and obidient Yukai, and Silent Fred, who was very talkative and friendly. Dax trained his wolves to near perfection, with Oni and Yukai as his main battle summons, and Silent Fred as his personal summon for whenever.

Dax was able to mate Oni and Yukai, which explains the wolf pups in the Animal Facility. There was four pups, which Dax promised Kioshi at least one, for delivering the pups for him.
